RIVER FORTH 2014

SCA Castle Tour to the River Forth - April 2014

The spring tour was based at South Queensferry to view castles of Lothian thanks to our President, John Hunter, in his last year of office. Thank you John from all the members of the SCA.

In October 2012, the SCA travelled to Menton - an area known as The Pearl of the Riviera - for a fabulous tour organised by SCA member Annick McGarrigle whose family live in this stunning region.

CAITHNESS 2011

SCA Castle Tour to Caithness - Sept 2011

Members headed north on the Friday afternoon for a tour of castles in Caithness. Castles visited were BALNAGOWN CASTLE, BERRIEDALE CASTLE, BRAAL CASTLE, BRIMS CASTLE, CASTLE OF MAY, KIESS CASTLE and others.

As a change to the annual picnic day this year, it was agreed to enhance the SCA visits programme by accepting a long-standing invitation from SCA members Tom and Sylvia Ashton to visit the Isle of Man.

Members Day and Conference at Fingask Castle, Feb 2011

This was held at FINGASK CASTLE, on the Carse of Gowrie, courtesy of Andrew Thriepland whose family have owned it for most of the time since the 17th Century.

September had us, passports in hand, headed south of the border for a trip round northern Cumbria and the edge of the "debateable lands", long notorious in Borders history.

STIRLINGSHIRE 2010

SCA Castle Tour To Stirlingshire - Apr 2010

Although labelled as a Stirling this trip included the counties of Stirling, Kinross and Clackmannan. A feature of our visit was the number of buildings rescued from ruin. MENSTRIE, ALLOA TOWER, and SAUCHIE.

SCA Members' Day to Ayrshire - Feb 2010

A cold winter day during a break in the snows saw 22 members gather at DUNDONALD CASTLE for the first visit of the day. Followed by PORTENCROSS CASTLE, FAIRLIE CASTLE and KELBURN CASTLE in the afternoon.
