Castle Levan (Gourock)

Levan Castle
Levan Castle

Castle Levan occupies a strong site on a ravine on the Clyde estuary at Gourock

It appears to date from two periods; a tower of the 15th century to which was added a larger in the 16th. The walls are thick, the windows small and the parapet is carried on attractive chequered corbelling. It is a fine example of its period.

Between 1984 and 1987 it underwent restoration from ruin and was used for a time as a hotel and latterly as a bed & breakfast. It now sits adjacent to modern housing.
