Preserving the Past for the Future

Kilhenzie Castle (Ayr) - Past and Present

A delightful little tower, Kilhenzie Castle has more to it than meets the eye. It appears a typical 16th century tower house with a vaulted basement, crow-stepped gables and corner turrets - but look through the inserted ground floor windows and one will be surprised at the wall thickness, indicative of an even-earlier tower.

Kilhenzie Castle was much altered in the 17th century and again in the 19th as witnessed by the enhanced fenestration.

Still in occupation and in good condition today Kilhenzie Castle was a property of the Kennedy family.
