Wallace's House (Renfrewshire) - Past & Present

Wallace's House (Elderslie, Renfrewshire)

Wallace's House (Elderslie, Renfrewshire)

Local tradition has long pointed out this site as the birthplace of William Wallace, though what stood there was a vaulted, crow stepped building of the late 16th C. Some credence may be given to this attribution as excavations in advance of landscaping found that it stood on the site of a 13th century moated manor - so perhaps it may even be true!

Be that as it may, it has not prevented this excellent example of domestic architecture being totally demolished in 1969 due to (who else?) vandals.
