Nigel Tranter Memorial Award

The Nigel Tranter Memorial Award is awarded annually to an individual or organisation whose contribution to the conservation, restoration or advancement of Scotland's castles has been, in the opinion of the judges, most (and sufficiently) meritorious during the previous year.

The Council hope this award will encourage the recipient and will further the memory of our founding President Nigel Tranter O.B.E, who during his lifetime worked tirelessly to promote Scotland, its culture, its history and the preservation and rescue of its historical buildings.

The Nigel Tranter Memorial Award 2004
The 2004 award was made to Professor Charles McKean of Dundee University for his work in the the area of Scottish history and in its architecture.
The Nigel Tranter Memorial Award 2007
Stonemason Graeme Brown received the 2007 Nigel Tranter Memorial Award from SCA President Lord Steel in recognition of his work restoring Stoneypath Tower in the Lothians. See what a fantastic job he did.

The 2005 Nigel Tranter Memorial Award was presented to Mr. Tom Clarke and Mrs. Olive Clarke.
The Nigel Tranter Memorial Award 2006
The 2006 Nigel Tranter Memorial Award was presented to Lachlan Stewart for his restoration of Ballone Castle and his involvement in several other important architectural projects.
The Nigel Tranter Memorial Award 2003
The 2003 Nigel Tranter Memorial Award was presented to Alastair M.T Maxwell-Irving.
The Nigel Tranter Memorial Award 2002
The recipient of the 2002 Nigel Tranter Memorial Award was Nicholas Groves-Raines for his work as architect and lead professional on the reconstruction and restoration of Fenton Tower near North Berwick.
The Nigel Tranter Memorial Award 2001
The 2001 Nigel Tranter Memorial Award was presented to Robert Clow for the restoration of Aiket Castle and the production of the book "Restoring Scotland's Castles."
The Nigel Tranter Memorial Award 2009
One of the Association’s longest serving members, John Pringle, received the Nigel Tranter Memorial Award for 2009.
